The Secret to Great Kids' Photos? Stop Trying So Hard.
After hundreds of sessions with children of all ages, I've learned one thing: the best photos happen when kids forget the camera is there.
I have photographed children from newborns to teenagers, and the number one question I get from parents is: how do you get them to cooperate? My honest answer? I do not.
The best photos of kids happen in the spaces between the poses. When a toddler trips and laughs. When siblings start whispering a secret. When a five-year-old suddenly spots a butterfly and points with their whole body.
My job is not to direct your children — it is to be ready when they forget I am there. I bring bubbles, I ask silly questions, I chase them around the field. And somewhere in all that chaos, magic happens.
If you are worried your kids will not sit still for photos — good. The still ones are never as interesting.
